Alaska seeks to place its gas at LNG terminals
Anchorage, Aug 5 (LNG journal)
- The Alaska Gasline Port Authority said it has entered discussions with four companies developing liquefied natural gas receiving terminals on the West Coast to place Alaskan gas.

The authority said the companies were: North Star Natural Gas/LNG developing a terminal near Bradwood , Oregon ; Penguin LNG and its planned offshore terminal near Camp Pendleton , California ; Crystal Energy LNG in the permit stage for an offshore terminal near Ventura , California ; and Kitimat LNG Inc., which is seeking permission for a terminal near Kitimat , British Columbia .

Several agreements have also been reached as a result of the discussions. Sempra Energy, which had previously withdrawn from direct involvement in Alaska , is in the process of constructing a terminal in Baja California , Mexico , which could still receive LNG from Alaska , the authority said.

Each of the projects involves the receipt, storage, processing, transportation, and marketing of Alaskan LNG shipped from the Port of Valdez .

An 800-mile gas pipeline, paralleling the TransAlaska Oil Pipeline, with a spur line from Glennallen to tie into the South Central gas grid, will transport the gas from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez . In Valdez , the gas will be liquefied and shipped by LNG tanker.
