Gazprom chooses nine on Shtokman field list
Moscow, Aug 8 (LNG journal)
- Gazprom said it's chosen a preliminary list of nine companies to compete for a liquefied natural gas project with a price tag of at least $10 billion in the Shtokman field in the Barents Sea.
Shtokman is one of the most prized ventures in the energy sector. Oil majors are keen to partner Gazprom in developing the field, which will sell LNG into the North American market for about 50 years.
The list comprises France 's Total , US majors Chevron, ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil, as well as Royal Dutch Shell and Statoil of Norway. Norsk Hydro, Mitsui & Co. and Sumitomo Corp are also on the list for the projects that include terminal construction.
Sempra Energy of the US has also submitted proposals to Gazprom, but these are limited to collaboration on the foreign LNG markets and do not involve the company's participation in the Shtokman development, Gazprom said.
Gazprom gave no indication when it would decide on a short list of companies that would be offered an equity stake from among the nine, who have already signed memoranda of understanding.
The Shtokman gas field is located 600 kilometers from the coast and is estimated to hold 3.2 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.
