UK wins component order for China carrier

London, Aug 15 (LNG journal)
- UK company Teddington Engineered Solutions said Monday it won a contract to supply components for the first liquefied natural gas tanker to be built in China.

China's first self-build LNG carrier is scheduled to leave dry dock in Shanghai in about three months' time and shipbuilders Hudong-Zhonghua now have three other LNG tanker orders in hand.

Teddington said its first order has now been shipped to China and the company has secured an additional order to supply components for the three other ships.

Teddington, which is based in Llanelli, Wales, makes bellows or expansion joints that have the capability of withstanding huge ranges of temperatures from minus 190°C to + 1200°C. They are used in a variety of applications to absorb vibration and thermal movement in pipework, pumps, turbines and other equipment.

"China is planning to build the world's largest shipyard in 2010/15 and the LNG market is vast and expanding, offering tremendous potential for companies like ours," said Steve Jones, Teddington's manufacturing director.
