The LNG Journal: Future Contents

Each issue of the LNG Journal normally contains 7 to 9 articles on technical and commercial topics relevant to all aspects of LNG, written by persons working in the LNG industry. Each issue also includes news of LNG projects, trade and operations; news of new products, services and publications; updated data in tabular form on existing and planned liquefaction and reception terminals, and a diary of future events. The LNG Journal also regularly includes reports on LNG Conferences and topical issues, and features or supplements on specific sectors of the LNG business.

The following appear in the June 2005 issue:

The June issue has an emphasis on LNG terminals, and will be made available at forthcoming Conferences on the subject for which the LNG Journal is a supporting publication.

Independent Certification for LNG Terminals
Paul Greeves and Trevor Welham, Lloyd's Register EMEA, UK
The authors describe the process of independent certification of LNG terminals, how the certifier gets involved, the selection of applicable codes and standards, and the benefits of independent certification in achieving and demonstrating a high level of safety.

Tables of Reception terminal tables
The LNG Journal publishes for the first time tabular data about reception terminals – those that are operating, new terminals or expansions of existing terminals that are under construction, and planned new terminals or expansions. The intention is that tables showing updates only (amended data, changes in status, new planned facilities) will be published in subsequent issues, with the full tables repeated less frequently. Tabular data of liquefaction terminals were published in our May 2005 issue.

Property Damage and Consequential Loss Insurance for Onshore LNG Facilities
Kevin Gormley, ACE Global Energy , UK
In this article the author gives an overview of how property damage and consequential loss insurance is obtained for onshore LNG facilities. The loss history of the LNG industry is also reviewed and compared with other parts of the downstream energy sector.

Offshore LNG Development Demands Impartial Technical Risk Evaluation
Sudheer Chand, INTEC Engineering , USA
The author addresses the need for independent assessment of technical and commercial risk in the development of offshore LNG projects and in the selection of approprate technologies and contracting methods.

Applicabilities and Limitations of LNG Vaporization Processes
Joseph H. Cho, Gopal Mathur, Heinz Kotzot and Charles Durr, Kellogg Brown & Root, Inc., USA
The selected vaporization process affects the LNG terminal's capital and operating costs, and should be economical, reliable, and use proven technologies, while meeting regulatory requirements and minimizing environmental impact. This article reviews the environmental issues and the technical and economic features of viable vaporizer options.

LNG Pump Choices for the Modern Receiving Terminal
David Cullen, Fritz Papmahl, Daniel Acheroy, and Christof Fey, Tractebel Gas Engineering GmbH , Germany
Many new LNG reception terminals are under construction or planned and the pace is set to increase during the next decade. The choice of pump type has been a subject of much discussion and debate within user, specifier, and engineering company circles. This article sets out to examine the choices available, the major pros and cons of each type and to provide some guidance on the key issues of pump size, design, and testing.

Welding 9% Nickel Steel for LNG applications
Jan Hilkes and Fred Neessen, Lincoln Smitweld bv, the Netherlands
In this article Lincoln Smetweld address the main issues relevant to the successful and economic welding of 9%Ni steel LNG storage tanks: the metallurgy, material preparation, welding consumables, and welding techniques, with a summary of guidelines.

Simulating gas fields and LNG trades
Stephen J Rowe and William J Brendling, BMT Fluid Mechanics Limited, UK
BMT describe the key elements of the simulation of gas fields and LNG trades. The benefits of simulation include increased understanding and optimisation of the whole gas delivery system, a better appreciation of financial risks associated with uncertainties, and the unifying effect of the process on the project team.
